Cylindrical UFOs Seen by Cassini Probe around Saturn Rings

The Draconians/Reptiloids use cylindrical shaped ships (they look like big tubes with flat ends)

Here is a picture of a Mothership in orbit around Saturn's rings. It is glowing white as a result of hot-plasma being used as its primary ant-gravity propulsion system (which is typical for most UFOs including saucers).

Its easy to tell that this is not the streak of a star, because if it were a streak, everything in the image would be streaking as well. (You see stars as single dots that are not streaking).

Its also not a comet or a meteor, as meteors streak from bright to dark, while this object is all bright (with no tapering effect).

LARGE CYLINDRICAL UFO PHOTOGRAPHED BY CASSINI PROBE

Now take a look at this photograph that was taken by the Russian Phobos Probe in 1980 shortly before it was destroyed. The Russian space agency issued a press release saying that they had photographed a 15 mile long cylindrical metallic object, which they thought could be a UFO.

Even the amplitude equalizations among genuine matter can be achieved with one of those kinds of fields if the frequency and the distance from the plane of the field are high enough." Disturbing Poll: One in Ten OK with Net Access Brain Implant

Here is a disturbing thought, 11 percent of Americans say they would be willing to safely implant a device that enabled them to use their mind to access the Internet, according to poll released yesterday by Zogby International and 463 Communications. If that creeps you out, the poll results get weirder.

The study also reveals 1 in 4 Americans say that the Internet can serve as a substitute for a significant other for some period of time.

Is that the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse I see headed our way?

The Zogby/463 poll of 9743 Americans examined people's attitudes about the Internet. The results just make me want to cut back on how much I sit in front of this computer.

* Other troubling poll results reveal 1 in 5 respondents said they would be willing to have a chip implanted in a child 13 or younger so they can track them.

* Ten percent said the Internet made them closer to God. On the other hand, 6 percent said it made them more distant.

Alas, a sigh of relief – the study found that our warped obsession with Hollywood is safe from the lure of technology. Poll results show Halle Berry, Scarlett Johansson and Patrick Dempsey are considered sexier than the iPhone.

Before you give your neighbor credit for getting their priorities right on that last question consider this: one in five Americans said they would change their name to something completely different for $100,000 cash. The study didn't say whether that was before taxes or after.

Other poll results are a bit more mundane by comparison.

More than one in four Americans has a social networking profile on sites such as MySpace or Facebook. Seventy-eight percent of 18-24 year-olds report having a social networking profile.

Over half of Americans think that Internet content such as video should be controlled in some way by the government.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - UFOs may be fodder for comedians but there was no
joking Monday when a group of former pilots recounted seeing strange
phenomena in the sky and demanded the US government reopen an
investigation into unidentified flying objects.

Several pilots offered dramatic accounts of witnessing UFOs --
including a transparent flying disc and a triangular craft with
mysterious markings -- as they insisted their questions needed to be
taken seriously more than 30 years after the US file was closed.

"We want the US government to stop perpetuating the myth that all UFOs
can be explained away in down-to-earth, conventional terms," said Fife
Symington, former governor of Arizona and air force pilot who says he
saw a UFO in 1997.

"Instead our country needs to reopen its official investigation that
it shut down in 1969," Symington told a news conference.

"We believe that for reasons of both national security and flight
safety, every country should make an effort to identify any object in
its airspace," said a statement from the 19 former pilots and
government officials from around the world.

The subject of UFOs came up in a recent debate among US presidential
candidates, with Democrat Dennis Kucinich saying he once saw a UFO --
making him the object of ridicule and jokes by late night television
comedians.

Skeptics say UFO sightings are merely aircraft, satellites or meteors
re-entering the Earth's atmosphere.

But the retired pilots spoke to a sympathetic audience of UFO
"believers" who heard them recall their encounters with seemingly
other-worldly objects appearing out of the sky.

"Nothing in my training prepared me for what we were witnessing," said
James Penniston, a retired US Air Force pilot, as he described seeing
and touching a UFO when he was stationed at a British air base in
Woodbridge.

He said he saw an inexplicable triangular craft in a clearing in the
woods with "blue and yellow lights swirling around the exterior."

The UFO was "warm to the touch and felt like metal," Penniston said.
One side of the craft had pictorial symbols and "the largest symbol
was a triangle, which was centered in the middle of the others," he
said.

Then after 45 minutes the light from the object "began to intensify"
and it then "shot off at an unbelievable speed" before 80 Air Force
personnel, he said. "In my logbook, I wrote 'speed: impossible.'"

Rodrigo Bravo from Chile's air force said UFOs needed to be studied
but lamented that the media often belittle the sightings.

"Sadly the UFO subject has been contaminated with false information,
out of touch with reality, provided by unqualified people to the
media," Bravo said.

"One of our most important civil aviation cases occurred in 1988,
showing that unidentified flying objects can be a danger for air
operations," he said.

"A Boeing 737 pilot on a final approach to the runway at the Puerto
Montt airport suddenly encountered a large white light surrounded by
green and red."

The pilot took a sharp turn to avoid a collision, according to Bravo.

The panel included a former Iranian fighter pilot, Parviz Jafari, who
said in 1976 he tried in vain to fire from his jet at an "object which
was flashing with intense red, green, orange and blue light" over
Tehran.

But when he approached, "my weapons jammed and my radio communications garbled."

A former Air France captain, Jean-Charles Duboc, said in 1994 he and
his crew saw "a huge flying disc" near Paris with a diameter of about
300 meters (1,000 feet) that left no sign on radar.

The disc "became transparent and disappeared in about 10 to 20
seconds," Duboc said.

The former pilot said like other major airlines Air France was mindful
of its image and it was difficult to raise the subject of UFOs.

A former official with the Federal Aviation Administration, John
Callahan, said government agencies discourage inquiries into UFOs.

"'Who believes in UFOs?' is the kind of attitude of the FAA all the
time," he said.

"However, when I asked the CIA person: 'What do you think it was,' he
responded 'a UFO.'"

When Callahan suggested the government tell Americans about a UFO, the
CIA official allegedly told him: "'No way, if we were to t

Eerie sounds coming from Saturn (as recorded by NASA)

Saturn is a source of intense radio emissions, which have been monitored by the Cassini spacecraft. The radio waves are closely related to the auroras near the poles of the planet. These auroras are similar to Earth's northern and southern lights. This is an audio file of radio emissions from Saturn.

The Cassini spacecraft began detecting these radio emissions in April 2002, when Cassini was 374 million kilometers (234 million miles) from the planet, using the Cassini radio and plasma wave science instrument. The radio and plasma wave instrument has now provided the first high resolution observations of these emissions, showing an amazing array of variations in frequency and time. The complex radio spectrum with rising and falling tones, is very similar to Earth's auroral radio emissions. These structures indicate that there are numerous small radio sources moving along magnetic field lines threading the auroral region.

Time on this recording has been compressed, so that 73 seconds corresponds to 27 minutes. Since the frequencies of these emissions are well above the audio frequency range, we have shifted them downward by a factor of 44.

The Cassini-Huygens mission is a cooperative project of NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a division of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, manages the mission for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Washington, D.C. The Cassini orbiter was designed, developed and assembled at JPL. The radio and plasma wave science team is based at the University of Iowa, Iowa City.

Aug. 17, 2007 — It used to be that human-generated electricity meant riding a stationary bicycle, or some such thing, to power a generator. But couch potatoes take note: simply sitting around could one day generate enough electricity to power electronic devices.

Scientists have developed new circuits that are able to harness electricity from body heat that would otherwise be wasted to the air. The advance could lead to battery-less cell phones and medical monitors that draw energy from their users.

"The idea behind it is that you can replace the batteries or at least you can enlarge the operation times of batteries," said Peter Spies, electrical engineer and group manager at Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits in Erlangen, Germany.

Spies and his team improved upon semiconductors called thermoelectric generators that produce electrical energy in the face of temperature differences.

Normally, a difference of several tens of degrees would be required in order to generate enough power, but the differences between the body's surface temperature and that of its environment are only a few degrees. US scientists issued a report that stated in its conclusion that
Aliens do exist and that they are visiting our planet on a regular
basis. Well, that is EXACTLY what the COMETA report is, which was

published by their head of their equivalent of NASA, their head of
their Air Force, and many of their top scientists and thinkers. The

The other thing that it does is the report points a finger squarely at
the US Government and in it they say that WE KNOW MORE than they do
because we have been secretly capturing and reverse engineering alien
technology for over 50 years!

So why would our Government keep aliens a secret? There are several reasons.

1) The Government doesn't want to admit that there is a potential
threat to US security that they can not deal with. Aliens present
such a threat. Alien technology is litterally thousands of years more
advanced that what we had at the end of WWII. While we had prop
airplanes that could fly at 300MPH, aliens have gravity drives capable
of faster than light travel and the ability to visit other galaxies.

2) The Government wants to secretly acquire and use recovered alien
technology for military use. And so they cover it up.

3) Around 1947 you had the War of The Words Broadcast that litterally
caused a world wide panic. So the Govt. could only conclude that the
average american wasn't ready to handle the truth.

As a result of the above reasons, the Government has spent trillions
of dollars to cover up the fact that Aliens do in fact exist. They
have NASA which hides the fact that aliens exist on a regular basis -
starting with erasing the certain parts of photos that the space craft
take of alien buildings on the darkside of the moon in 1960s. NASA says they are looking for alien organisms in the rocks on

OTTAWA (AFP) - Bigfoot, the legendary hairy man-like beast said to roam the wildernesses of North America, is not shy, merely so rare it risks extinction and should be protected as an endangered species.

So says Canadian MP Mike Lake who has called for Bigfoot to be protected under Canada's species at risk act, alongside Whooping Cranes, Blue Whales, and Red Mulberry trees.

"The debate over their (Bigfoot's) existence is moot in the circumstance of their tenuous hold on merely existing," reads a petition presented by Lake to parliament in March and due to be discussed next week.

"Therefore, the petitioners request the House of Commons to establish immediate, comprehensive legislation to affect immediate protection of Bigfoot," says the petition signed by almost 500 of Lake's constituents in Edmonton, Alberta.

A similar appeal has been made to the US Congress.

Down through history, there have been numerous, if unsubstantiated sightings of Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch in North American folklore.

The beast is said to inhabit remote forests, mainly in the US Pacific northwest and western Canada, and many believe it could be related to the equally mythical Yeti said to have found its home in Tibet and Nepal.

While sometimes described as large, hairy bipedal hominoids, Bigfoot are considered by most experts to be a combination of folklore and hoaxes.

But the legend remains strong, and Bigfoot researcher Todd Standing, who was behind the petition, claims to have proof of its existence, and says he fears for its safety.

"When I get species protection for them nationwide, I will make my findings public and I will take this out of the realm of mythology. Bigfoot is real," Standing told Global National television news.

He said he has 12 seconds of video footage of Bigfoot roaming Canada's western Rocky Mountains included in a 30-minute documentary, but his detractors say it was staged with actors.

His supporters hail from Canada's westernmost provinces, but Bigfoot sightings have been reported across the country, which is 90 percent uninhabited.

There are currently 516 plant and animal species at risk in Canada, according to Environment Canada. Another 13 species are already extinct.

When the Letty general visited me in March 1995 in my office of 1 ' IHEDN to expose me its project of establishment of a new committee of study on the UFO, I ensured it of my interest, and addressed it to the direction of Association Listeners of 1 ' IHEDN (AA), which gave its support to him. Knowing that some 20 years before, 1 ' AA had produced, and published in its bulletin, a first report/ratio on the subject, it was only time to bring up to date it. Denis Letty seemed to me very indicated to animate this task; one month before, in February, it had organized, within the framework of the Association of the Alumni of 1 ' School of air, a conference on the not identified aerospace phenomena. In front of a public many, some of our comrades, old pilot, had exposed theirs spontaneously meetings with UFO. The person in charge for the study of these phenomena within the CNES had then presented its work and a known astronomer had described a version scientifically acceptable of the extraterrestrial assumption. The fields of knowledge concerned with the phenomenon UFO are very diverse, and it Letty general knew to find within the AA, but also outside, the many ones competences of which it coordinated the efforts. The list of the high level, civil diplomas and soldiers, of the members of his committee, is impressive: officers, engineers, specialists physical sciences, life sciences and social sciences could approach the study in all its aspects. It is not a question of a purely academic study. Concrete problems arise, and not only with the civil and military pilots, who call a response in terms of action. The composition of COMETA, name of the committee, in held account. Its recommendations were followed, during creation, within Center National Space Studies, Group of Studies of the Aerospace Phenomena Not identified (GEPAN), become in 1988 Service of Expertise on the Phenomena of Re-entry Atmospheric (SEPRA). 20 years after, this committee considered it useful to give a progress report on this file, of which the topicality is large, as testify some to many films and emissions of television devoted to the subject. Very thorough investigations, supported into analyses of traces, showed the physical presence of a phenomenon whose nature and origin remain not known. The cases of Trans-in-Provence and Amaranth mentioned in example 1, are particularly interesting. These reports are also very similar to foreign reports that were made.

There are now over 500 French aeronautical cases, which were collected from 1942 to 1995, which were unexplainable. A fifth of these were confirmed by radar under conditions, which attest of their physical reality. French military pilots who witnessed these crafts all had the same impression - that they seemed to be remote controlled. And landings of Trans-in-Provence and Amaranth can conceive itself like natural phenomena. Certain PAND thus appears well to be flying machines completely unknown factors, with the exceptional performances, guided by a natural intelligence or artificial.

Many scientists tried to model the phenomenon of the UFO. Partial modeling related to air displacements in particular. Since 30 years, one the study of the magneto hydrodynamic propulsion (MHD) of the UFO developed, by analogy with that of the ships. The only scientific assumptions are those of terrestrial machines secrecies, impossible to support for the cases going up with much more than 10 years, and those extraterrestrial machines. Over the past year, Google has been reaching out to the media and the public to allay fears that click fraud represents a serious threat to its business. Its executives have repeatedly said the problem is under control and not significant for Google. Its engineers have released internal statistics, previously withheld, in support of that contention and published blog posts attacking the statistics and credibility of click fraud auditing companies. They have also added click fraud reporting tools to Google's AdWords advertising service.
Google on Tuesday published "The Anatomy of Clickbot.A," an analysis of malicious software used to commit click fraud. Despite Google CEO Eric Schmidt's past insistence that click fraud is "immaterial," the paper argues that more needs to be done to protect search engines and computers in general against botnet attacks.

"We believe that it is important to disclose the details of how such botnets work to help the security community, in general, build better defenses," the paper states, adding that Google identified and invalidated all the clicks originating from the Clickbot.A botnet in question.

The particular Clickbot.A botnet described in the paper consisted of 100,000 machines when analyzed in June 2006. The Clickbot.A software was designed to conduct "a low-noise click fraud attack against syndicated search engines." The authors of the paper, Neil Daswani and Michael Stoppelman, put Google's potential click fraud cost at approximately $50,000.

A Google spokesperson was not immediately available to clarify whether this potential cost might be incurred daily, weekly, monthly, or otherwise. But even if that's a possible daily loss, costing some $18 million annually, it's hardly a significant figure for a company with Google's revenue.

"It's unclear as to whether or not botnet-based click fraud is as profitable as keylogging and other applications of botnets," the paper states. "Having a botnet log all keystrokes, including passwords used to login to online banking sites, may allow a bot operator to obtain some average dollar profit per compromised machine. On the other hand, the bot operator could attempt to make that amount of profit by having a bot simply click on ads."

But even if click fraud is less profitable than electronic bank robbery, it probably carries a much lower risk of investigation and imprisonment.

The paper concludes that search engines need to investigate botnets, that ISPs need to better protect Web hosting customers, and that malware detection rates need to be improved. It calls for Web businesses to encourage customers to use anti-virus software and for security researchers and corporate IT department to share more security-related data. And with the publication of this paper, Google appears to be leading by example.

PARIS (AFP) - France became the first country to open its files on UFOs Thursday when the national space agency unveiled a website documenting more than 1,600 sightings spanning five decades.

The online archives, which will be updated as new cases are reported, catalogues in minute detail cases ranging from the easily dismissed to a handful that continue to perplex even hard-nosed scientists.

"It is a world first," said Jacques Patenet, the aeronautical engineer who heads the office for the study of "non-identified aerospatial phenomena."

Known as OVNIs in French, UFOs have always generated intense interest along with countless conspiracy theories about secretive government cover-ups of findings deemed too sensitive or alarming for public consumption.

"Cases such as the lady who reported seeing an object that looked like a flying roll of toilet paper" are clearly not worth investigating, said Patenet.

But many others involving multiple sightings -- in at least one case involving thousands of people across France -- and evidence such as burn marks and radar trackings showing flight patterns or accelerations that defy the laws of physics are taken very seriously.

A phalanx of beefy security guards formed a barrier in front of the space agency (CNES) headquarters where the announcement was made, "to screen out uninvited UFOlogists," an official explained.

Of the 1,600 cases registered since 1954, nearly 25 percent are classified as "type D", meaning that "despite good or very good data and credible witnesses, we are confronted with something we can't explain," Patenet said.

On January 8, 1981 outside the town of Trans-en-Provence in southern France, for example, a man working in a field reported hearing a strange whistling sound and seeing a saucer-like object about 2.5 meters (eight feet) in diameter land in his field about 50 meters (yards) away.

A dull-zinc grey, the saucer took off, he told police, almost immediately, leaving burn marks. Investigators took photos, and then collected and analyzed samples, and to this day no satisfactory explanation has been made.

The nearly 1,000 witness who said they saw flashing lights in the sky on November 5, 1990, by contrast, had simply seen a rocket fragment falling back into earth's atmosphere.

Patenet's answer to questions about evidence of life beyond Earth was sure to inflame the suspicions of those convinced the government is holding back: "We do not have the least proof that extra-terrestrials are behind the unexplained phenomena."

But then he added: "Nor do we have the least proof that they aren't."

The CNES fields between 50 and 100 UFO reports ever year, usually written up by police. Of these, 10 percent are the object of on-site investigations, Patenet said.

Other countries collect data more or less systematically about unidentified flying objects, notably in Britain and in the United States, where information can be requested on a case-by-case basis under the Freedom of Information Act.

"But we decided to do it the other way around and made everything available to the public," Patenet said.

The aim was to make it easier for scientists and other UFO buffs to access the data for research.

The website itself -- which crashed host servers hours after it was unveiled due to heavy traffic -- is extremely well organized and complete, even including scanned copies of police reports.

SEO BOOK - Update Number Three - The Myths about page rank

Ok as I said in the previous two posts, I am currently reading Aaron Wall's SEO Book, and part of it discusses Page Rank and how that is computed by Google to show what is called "Authority" to compute relevance for a given search term. In case you are new to SEO, it is the optimization of your site and creating relevant back links that enables you to place high within search engine results for given keywords.

This is really important because in order to generate a lot of relevant traffic - read traffic that does not bounce but converts (signing up members, selling produts, etc...) you need to focus on linking with certain keywords. What does this have to do with Page Rank? Well Google assigns a page rank to every single page on every single website it indexes. And many people have downloaded the Google Tool Bar which allows you to see a site's page rank. Here is where the myth begins.

The Google Tool Bar, I have discovered, is really misleading for several reasons:

1) Page rank - which is listed as 0-10, is actually a floating point number! A floating point number is a number with a decimal point that represents fractions. So actually there are really fine gradations between all page ranks.

2) Google does not update their tool bar very often! Actually it happens about once every three months or so. However, the real page rank - the one stored in the Google search algorythm is CONSTANTLY CHANGING, and as I said before is actually a number with a decimal point. So a PR 4 website may be listed in the Google index as PR 4.01334. Which means that not all PR 4 pages are equal!

3) I have a PR 0 site that is now getting a lot more traffic from Google than a PR 3 website that I have, which means that Google has not updated their tool bar, and in fact my PR 0 site may have a higher internal page rank than my PR3 one.

I had come to these conclusions on my own recently after looking at my traffic logs, but I also confirmed my suspicions when I did a search to find comments from Matt Cutts - a Google employee who had the following comments to make on Page Rank.

Page Rank as a floating point number - "It’s more accurate to think of it as a floating-point number. Certainly our internal PageRank computations have many more degrees of resolution than the 0-10 values shown in the toolbar."

How Google's Data Centers Transfer Page Rank which may cause a delay - "The latter. I think most data centers are running the newer infrastructure for things like info:, related:, link: and PageRank, and I believe every data center that has that newer infrastructure has the recent snapshot of PageRank now. I wouldn’t be surprised if it took at least 1-2 months for the other data center IPs to get the newer infrastructure in some way. (Yes, this is smaller, different infrastructure than the stuff that made site: queries have more accurate results estimates.)"

Page Rank is computed continuously - "I believe that I’ve said before that PageRank is computed continuously; there are machines that take inputs to the PageRank algorithm at Google and compute the resulting PageRanks. So at any given time, a url in Google’s system has up-to-date PageRank as a result of running the computation with the inputs to the algorithm. From time-to-time, that internal PageRank value is exported so that it’s visible to Google Toolbar users (see the question below for more details on the timing)."

Forget speech-recognition software: How about typing a letter just by thinking it?

In a quiet corner of the CeBIT trade show a small Austrian company is showing a "brain-computer interface," a technology that could one day transform how we use computers, play video games and even talk to each other.

It sounds like science fiction but is a clever application of science and technology. The system does not really read thoughts; rather, it measures fluctuations in electrical voltage in the brain and translates them into commands on a computer screen.

The system consists of a cap that fits over the user's head, with a few dozen holes through which electrodes are attached so they rest on the scalp. The electrodes are connected via thin cables to a "biosignal amplifier," which transmits the signals from the brain to a computer.

Different parts of the brain are used to process different types of thoughts. Vertical and horizontal hand movements are handled in an area called the sensory motor cortex, for example, said Christoph Guger, CEO of g.tec, which built the BCI system shown at CeBIT.

To use a BCI to move a computer cursor, the electrodes are placed over the corresponding part of the brain, where they read tiny fluctuations in voltage and feed them into a software program that analyzes them to figure out what the person is thinking.

The software needs to be trained to read the signals, which takes several hours to do properly. The subject responds to commands on a computer screen, thinking "left" and "right" when they are instructed to do so, for example. Another test involves looking at a series of blinking letters, and thinking of a letter when it appears.

The software "learns" what the brain's voltage fluctuations look like when those directions or letters are thought of, Guger said.

The system today is also quite slow -- even a trained system can "read" only 18 characters per minute, or three or four words. Still, that may be helpful for a disabled person who cannot communicate through speech or movement. About 200 disabled people worldwide are using the software at home to communicate, according to Guger, although they need professional help to set it up.

Another issue is accuracy. In a test at a conference in Austria about two years ago, 300 attendees were trained on the system for 30 minutes. After that time the system could figure out simple binary responses from most of the people 60 percent of the time -- or "better than random," Guger said. For 7 percent of the people, the accuracy was more than 90 percent, he said.

The technology is advancing. Five years ago the system was too bulky to be transported easily, and now the various parts can fit in a shoebox. In 10 years it could be fast and accurate enough to commercialize in home PCs or games consoles, according to Guber.

"Ultimately you could have wireless contacts embedded in the brain, and communicate with others just by thinking," he said. "But then you really would have to worry about your wife finding out about your girlfriend."

At CeBIT, a colleague of Guber's donned the BCI system and played the game "Pong" against a reporter. It has also been used to write letters, operate artificial limbs and steer a wheelchair. "It's not safe enough for wheelchairs today though; if it reads a command wrongly you could veer off into the road," Guger said.

The study of BCI took off in the 1990s, primarily at three laboratories, in Austria, Germany and the U.S. There are now 300 laboratories working on it, Guger said. He completed his Ph.D. in BCI at the Graz University of Technology, in Austria, in 1999, he said.

He sells his BCI systems mainly to scientists for research work. They are priced from €20,000 (US$26,000) to €100,000 depending on their sophistication. The company is showing a smaller, Pocket PC-based device at CeBIT that starts at €3,000. More information is at g.tec's Web site.

Measuring the brain's electrical activity like this is called electroencephalography, or EEG. It is noninvasive, meaning the electrodes are placed on the scalp without surgery, but it produces weaker signals and is subject to noise interference.

Invasive techniques produce better results but are tried only on patients who require brain surgery in any case, and on monkeys and other animals.

An engineer in the U.S. holds a patent on the general BCI concept, Guger said; other patents are held by universities for specific software algorithms used to decode the brain's signals.

G.tec's BCI is among the nominees for the European ICT Prize , the winners of which will be announced Friday. There are three grand prizes of €200,000 each.

OTTAWA (AFP) - A former Canadian defense minister is demanding governments worldwide disclose and use secret alien technologies obtained in alleged UFO crashes to stem climate change, a local paper said Wednesday.

"I would like to see what (alien) technology there might be that could eliminate the burning of fossil fuels within a generation ... that could be a way to save our planet," Paul Hellyer, 83, told the Ottawa Citizen.

Alien spacecrafts would have traveled vast distances to reach Earth, and so must be equipped with advanced propulsion systems or used exceptional fuels, he told the newspaper.

Such alien technologies could offer humanity alternatives to fossil fuels, he said, pointing to the enigmatic 1947 incident in Roswell, New Mexico -- which has become a shrine for UFO believers -- as an example of alien contact.

"We need to persuade governments to come clean on what they know. Some of us suspect they know quite a lot, and it might be enough to save our planet if applied quickly enough," he said.

Hellyer became defense minister in former prime minister Lester Pearson's cabinet in 1963, and oversaw the controversial integration and unification of Canada's army, air force and navy into the Canadian Forces.

He shocked Canadians in September 2005 by announcing he once saw a UFO.

Bio-artists bridge art-science divide

TROY, N.Y. - Adam Zaretsky once spent 48 hours playing Engelbert Humperdincks's "Greatest Hits" to a dish of E.coli bacteria to determine whether vibrations or sounds influenced bacterial growth. Watching the bacteria's antibiotic production increase, Zaretsky decided that perhaps even cells were annoyed by constant subjection to "loud, really awful lounge music."

This sense of humor is a huge component of Zaretsky's work in the growing field of bio-art, a broad term for the blend of art, technology and science that is attracting artists, scientists and controversy. Having recently taught at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Zaretsky has become a prominent figure in the realm of bio-art and RPI is becoming a Petri dish for the cultivation of new works.

Bio-artists use live tissues, bacteria, living organisms and life processes to create works of art that blur the traditional distinctions between science and art. Most of these works tend toward social reflection, conveying political and societal criticism through the combination of artistic and scientific processes.

An exhibit of bio-art works by Kevin H. Jones went on view Feb. 16 at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, Mass. Jones' work explores how biotechnology and other sciences are changing and being redefined. Almost every piece in it is alive, and the media used includes bioluminescent bacteria and rotting fruit. According to Montserrat College Assistant Curator Shana Dumont, the exhibit seeks to make the achievements and implications of biotechnology more accessible, a goal shared by most bio-artists working today.

Brazilian artist Eduardo Kac, an Art Institute of Chicago professor and a leader in bio-arts, once had a microchip implanted in his body to make people contemplate the relationship humans have with technology.

"(Bio-art) is a way of looking where we interface with ourselves, human culture and the rest of the living world," said Zaretsky.

At RPI, bio-arts is a growing curriculum through its iEAR program (Integrated Electronic Arts at Rensselaer).

"Through iEAR, it's helping us make alliances and build connections as we develop the bio-art program," said Kathy High, an RPI professor and chair of the program. "We're fortunate here because there's so much going on (around us) with nanotechnology and bioengineering."

High said she originally became involved in bio-art through her interest in women's issues and much of her previous work focused on the birthing process and reproductive technologies.

Zaretsky taught his course, "VivoArts: Art and Biology Studio," at RPI in the fall 2006 semester. The course guides a mix of artists, scientists and medical students in the exploration of life sciences through projects that examine the human connection to living systems.

The VivoArts courses are meant to expose artists to laboratories, which he says are often the most "intimidating and foreign sites." In one assignment, a student might "paint" with genetically modified bacteria; in another, a student incorporates his or her self into a work of living art.

Much of the art involves tissue-culturing and transgenics, a catchall term for a variety of genetic engineering processes through which genetic material from one organism is altered by the addition of synthesized or transplanted genetic material from another organism.

One of the original examples of this type of transgenic art was Alba, a living phosphorescent rabbit created by Kac in 2000. By inserting the fluorescent protein gene from a jellyfish into a fertilized rabbit egg cell, Kac eventually produced a rabbit that glows bright green under blue lights.

RPI alum Julia Reodica incorporated her own body as well as animal cells in her 2004 project, "hymeNextTM." Using rat tissue samples and her own vaginal cells, Reodica combined new media and sculpture methods with tissue-cultivating to produce a series of artificial hymens. Reodica's pieces aim to confront modern sexuality, and provoke thought on the female body and the emphasis placed on virginity in our culture.

Reodica, who was originally a medical student, turned to commercial art before later looking for a way to explore science through art while also illustrating social messages and issues.

An exhibit last October at RPI, called "Prototype," detailed the processes that have gone into the development of "hymeNextTM" and her other works, including an enormous replica of muscle cells that allows the viewer to walk around and through the faux tissue. Other projects on which she is working include a series she calls "Living Sculptures," creating a collection of synthetic embryos of mythical creatures.

Not everyone is cheering this blend of art and science.

Kac and many others have faced opposition from animal rights groups accusing them of unfairly manipulating living creatures for selfish purposes, and from conservative groups who question the morality of transgenics and tissue-culturing.

"Transgenic manipulation of animals is just a continuum of using animals for human end," regardless of whether it is done to make some sort of sociopolitical critique, said Alka Chandna, a senior researcher with PETA in Norfolk, Va. "The suffering and exacerbation of stress on the animals is very problematic."

Chandna also warned that scientists can't always predict what other health problems the animals will suffer from their alterations. "We're all in support of creativity but we're opposed to all suffering."

For other bio-artists, their work has led to national legal scrutiny.

Steven Kurtz, a professor at SUNY Buffalo, was arrested on federal terrorism charges nearly three years ago after police discovered certain types of bacteria and other biological materials in his home. Kurtz maintains that the specimens were for his bio-arts pieces and that he has been unfairly targeted for his choice of artistic expression. Kurtz's trial is still pending in the federal court system, nearly three years later.

Part of the problem with bio-art, explained RPI faculty member and Kurtz's colleague Rich Pell, is that much of it seems shrouded in secrecy because of the laboratory setting. Pell and Reodica are working to combat this through the creation of the Center for Bio-Media, a gallery, lab and educational facility that will be open to the public.

"With bio-art, rather than just freaking out about it, you can then go into a lab where things are actually happening and then have an 'educated freak-out,'" Pell said.

Aaron Wall's SEO BOOK - Submitting to Directories

As I said in a previous post, I am reading Aaron Wall's SEO Book, which has given me a lot of new insight into how to successfully build and market a site or product online. In this post I want to talk briefly about posting to directories and how they can help you drive traffic and stabilize/build your PR - Page Rank with Google.

In case you don't know, Google assigns a page rank to every website page. A PR value is one of the measures the search engine uses to measure "Relavancy" or how important a given source is. Basically a source/website that has a lot of relevant backlinks - links from other similar type websites will have a higher PR value than one that has less. Anyway by listing your site in some of the larger directories such as Yahoo, Gimpsy, and Business.com, you can help improve both your traffic to your site and your Google Page Rank (PR). So I want to talk about a personal experience I had with some of these directories and some pitfalls to avoid when listing in them.

First off, the larger directories such as Yahoo, Gimpsy, Business.com, and Bestoftheweb, charge what is called a "review" fee. For Yahoo it is currently an annual fee of $299. It ain't cheap. So before you go and list your site and pay for a "review" which DOES NOT GUARANTEE A LISTING. You should be aware of several important factors:

1) Most of these directories DO NOT GUARANTEE A LISTING for the fee paid. In fact most of them have very stringent guidelines that must be followed in order to be listed, and even then your site may be rejected if they deem it to not fit or not be good enough.

2) READ THEIR EDITORIAL GUIDLINES CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU SUBMIT YOUR SITE - For example, Business.com only accepts B2B or business to business type websites. So B2C sites such as a dating website or a blog will be rejected!

3) KNOW THIER REFUND POLICY For exmaple Business.com did refund my money after they rejected my site, but Bestoftheweb tried to not refund my money and I had to raise a big stink before they finally decided to give me my money back - more on that later ;)

4) DO NOT USE ALL CAPS LIKE I AM DOING NOW Most directories will reject your listing if you use titles or descriptions that are in all caps or that have a "call to action" like "Buy this now!" or "Join today!". So avoid doing this.

5) Make sure you choose the most relevant subdirectory to submit your site to Most directories require you to search their directory to find the most relevant category or subdirectory where you site should go. Make sure you choose the best one before you submit.

I submitted my site to Business.com, Best of the Web and Gimpsy. Gimpsy luckily accepted me into their directory and Business.com and Bestoftheweb rejected me. Business.com was nice enough to refund me my submission fee without any hassle after they explained to me they only list B2B websites - i.e. busineses that sell to other businesses - wholesale.

Gimpsy - luckily accepted my site! Whoohoo!

BestoftheWeb rejected my site after I spent $80 and gave me a one sentence "review" that was: "not enough original content" which makes absolutely no sense for a community site where the "content" is its members and their profiles. So I had a bloody fight with BotW to get my money back! And they kept refusing saying that I was paying for a "review" not a "listing" and I said bullshit - I paid for a listing not a review.

And it went back and forth a lot. Finally I threatened to cancell payment throughh my credit card and report them to the better business bureau for offering fake "listings" and paying for one line "reviews". They finally caved and refunded me my $70.

Key Learnings

Anyway you should probably note before you submit to these directories that they don't accept anyone with a website and a credit card - you have to meet their very rigorous editorial guidelines and then you need a really really good site to be approved. So take extra care when submitting to these high profile directories.

LONDON - " Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," the last of seven installments of the boy wizard's adventures, will be published July 21, author J.K. Rowling said Thursday.

Rowling announced the publication date on her Web site.

Bloomsbury, her British publisher, said it would publish a children's hardback edition, an adult hardback, a special gift edition and an audio book on the same day.

Scholastic Children's Books, the U.S. publisher, said it would offer a hardback edition at a suggested retail price of $34.99, a deluxe edition at $65.00 and a reinforced library edition at $39.99.

Bloomsbury noted that this year is the 10th anniversary of the publication of the first "Harry Potter" book in the phenomenally successful series.

The "Potter" books have sold 325 million copies worldwide and been translated into 64 languages, Bloomsbury said.

The last book, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," sold 2,009,574 copies in Britain on the first day of its release, Bloomsbury said.

The Potter franchise is so important to the company's earnings that it announced the publication to the London Stock Exchange.

Bloomsbury shares were up 2.2 percent to $4.40 after the announcement.

SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) - US President George W. Bush is no longer Google's top response to Internet searches for "miserable failure."

Queries for French military victories no longer take one to "defeats."

Links to web pages about Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva no longer pop up in searches in Portuguese for "drunken despot."

And Russian Internet users that type "enemy of the people" into Google are not directed to a biography of that nation's leader, Vladimir Putin.

The Mountain View, California-based search colossus says it has finally defused such "Googlebombs," search term results rigged by clever outsiders to make comic or critical commentary.

"By improving our analysis of the link structure of the Web, Google has begun minimizing the impact of many Googlebombs," Ryan Moulton and Kendra Carattini of Google wrote in a company weblog.

"Now, we will typically return commentary, discussions, and articles about the Googlebombs instead."

Google described the programming change as "pretty small," saying there were fewer than 100 well-known Googlebombs, also referred to as "link bombs" because they provide links to unrelated websites under the guise of answering the query.

For example, a Google search for French military victories had prompted a replica of a search engine page and the question "Did you mean military defeats?" as though the searcher's original quest was in vain.

Searches for "failure," "fiasco," and "miserable" in various languages resulted in links to various countries' current or former leaders.

A search in Danish for "primitive troll" provided a link to an official page for that nation's prime minister, while the query "mouton insignificant" (unimportant sheep) led searchers to a biography for the premier of Quebec, Canada.

"Because these pranks are normally for phrases that are well off the beaten path, they haven't been a very high priority for us," Moulton and Carattini explained in their blog.

"But over time, we've seen more people assume that they are Google's opinion, or that Google has hand-coded the results for these Googlebombed queries. That's not true."

Rather than deactivating Googlebombs by hand, Google engineers developed a search algorithm to neutralize them.

"Computers can process lots of data very fast, and robust algorithms often work well in many different languages," Moulton and Carattini wrote.

"That's what we did in this case, and the extra effort to find a good algorithm helps detect Googlebombs in many different languages."

Google ranks search results based on a mathematical model that factors in key words and popularity of websites.

While Google has known about link bombs for years, it had previously expressed reluctance to defuse them individually because it didn't want to tinker with the objectivity of its Internet search model.

Google cautioned that some link bombs will slip past the algorithm net, which will be tightened based on feedback from searchers.

The inventer of a bear-protection suit has created a much slimmer version which has been designed to stave off bullets, explosives, knives, and clubs. The suit is called Trojan and the inventer describes it as the "first ballistic, full exoskeleton body suit of armour" and he hopes to get it deployed for Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan and US soldiers in Iraq. The suit has stood up to an elephant gun, and is made from high-impact plastic lined with ceramic bullet protection over ballistic foam. Built into the forearms are a small recording device, a pepper-spray gun and a detachable transponder that can be swallowed in case of trouble. The whole suit comes in at 18 kilograms and overs everything but the fingertips and the major joints, and could allegedly be mass-produced for about $2,000. Plus, if you saw an army of these things coming at you you wouldn't even fight. You'd just give up and pray the space robots haven't come to anally probe you.

October 12, 2006 - Apple and Bono have teamed up to launch a special edition (RED) iPod nano, which will be unveiled tomorrow during Bono's appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show, according to widespread reports. The launch comes one month after Think Secret tipsters first said a deal for a (RED) iPod was close to being completed.

The iPod nano is said to be a 4GB model that is wrapped in a special red case and priced at the same $199 as other 4GB iPod nanos. $10 of each sale will be going to Bono's AIDS-awareness charity, (RED), which passes the funds on to The Global Fund, an organization that helps women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa.

1. His note addresses the Dark Lord a term used by Death Eater's.
Regulus was a Death Eater who turned on Voldemort and was eventually
destroyed by him or his followers.
2. The Death Eaters knew about the Horcruxes as Voldemort said in the
graveyard in GOF to his Death Eaters: "And I asked myself, but how
could they have believed I would not rise again? They, who knew the

3. Regulus's middle name could be Alphard - named after his uncle.
Other wizard characters are named after same gender family names like

4. A locket that nobody could open was found at 12 Grimmauld Place and
was discarded. It is thought either Kreacher took it with other items
(Horcruxes) or perhaps Mundungus stole it.
5. Regulus removed the Horcrux with Kreacher who being an elf with

living relatives of Sirius (such as Regulus) who could inherit #12
Grimmauld Place.
8. Why did Harry inherit #12 Grimmauld Place and Kreacher if they
weren't going to feature in the final book?

Is Snape is working for the light all along? Why?
1.Dumbledore trusted Snape. OK Dumbledore made big mistakes but he
appeared to have had some cast-iron guarantee like an unbreakable vow.
2. Perhaps Dumbledore was dying of the poison and had instructed Snape
beforehand to kill him so that Snape would gain the trust of the Death
Eaters, who would lead him to Voldemort. For this same reason, Snape
took the unbreakable vow to protect Malfoy.
3. Perhaps Dumbledore paralysed Harry under his invisibility cloak to
stop him interfering in the plan and to protect Snape.
4. Dumbledore said "please Severus" - why would the most powerful
wizard plead for his life?
5. Dumbledore was overheard arguing with Snape in the Hogwarts grounds
- was this because Snape didn't want go along with Dumbledore's plan
which involved killing him?
6. In the battles in the Tower, Snape never hurt Harry or his accomplices.
7. Snape owes a debt to Harry after James, Harry's father saved his life.

Well, the WWDC’s keynote speech has come and gone. I must say, I was expecting a bit more out of the demo of OS X Leopard. The features are cool and somewhat useful, but nothing ground breaking. I know that I’ll really enjoy spaces with all the browsing porn…. uh, I mean… work that I do. But I don’t think that there really was anything worthy of making Microsoft delay their release of Vista another year; although, the fact that it’s still complete crap right now should be reason enough. The new mac pros are definitely sexy though.

Well, this made me laugh. But seriously, 300 million people doesn’t mean that PCs are “better”. I’ve used Macs for two years and before that I was exclusively a PC user. There is not one thing I preferred on my PC. If the majority / big numbers meant something was better then 50 cent would be the new Bach and Bush an amazing president. I can’t actually thing of one good reason for me to use a PC, so if anybody can think of one, let me know.

Robert Scoble was at the Googleplex yesterday, and he says that someone has erased the famous Google Master Plan. Now, while the Master Plan is a big joke (employees use it to write down every ridiculous idea they have, like Google Diets, Google Ski Conditions, Google Casino, space travel, weather control, orbital mind control and crop circles), erasing it is a big deal, given the amount of work that went into it. My guess is it was a dramatic gesture related to Sergey Brin’s call last week for Google to work more on improving existing products than releasing new ones.

Co-founder Sergey Brin is leading a companywide initiative called “Features, not products.” He said the campaign started this summer when Google executives realized that myriad product releases were confusing their users.

“It’s worse than that,” said Brin, Google’s president of technology. “It’s that I was getting lost in the sheer volume of the products that we were releasing.”
